Thai Massage originated in India 2,500 years ago. Merging Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine, it works with the body's energy channels or pathways known as sen lines, through the modalities of acupressure and assisted movements such as stretching, pulling, and rocking techniques to relieve tension, promote deep relaxation, and improve flexibility and circulation. Unlike traditional western oil based massages, Thai Massage is performed fully clothed on a padded ground.
A few benefits supported by scientific research include:
Relieves Joint Stiffness & Pain
Research on arthritis patients found that the study participants felt less pain and walked with greater ease after an 8-week program and that 3 weeks of Thai massage provided the same pain relief as 3 weeks of ibuprofen.
Reduces Back Pain
Thai massage may be an effective, non
pharmaceutical means of reducing back pain.Researchers show significant pain relief in groups with non specific low back pain and upper back tension treated with Thai Massage
Relieves Tension Headaches
Researchers found that Thai massage reduced the intensity of both migraine and tension headaches for days up to months
Eases Anxiety
Although Thai massage stimulates the flow of energy through the body more than other forms of massage therapy, it has been shown by brian scan research that participants test lower on measures of psychological stress, anxiety and relaxation than people who underwent physical therapy treatments for the same conditions.
Increases Flexibility & Range
Research on the effects of Thai massage on athletic performance. sowed that after receiving three times in a 10-day period, athletes showed significant improvement in their ability to do sit-and-reach exercises.
Researchers hypothesize that the increase in flexibility may be because Thai massage has the ability to improve blood flow and oxygen supply to muscles. This, in turn, may help reduce pain and decrease muscle adhesions.
The researchers also found that the Thai massage treatments improved the athletes’ speed and agility on the field.
Improves Energy
Many people report that they leave Thai massage sessions feeling not only relaxed but also rejuvenated. Research comparing the effects of Thai massage and Swedish massage on people who were fatigued, found that those who had Thai massage felt mentally invigorated and physically energized while being deeply relaxed.
